The Germans are looking on with envy as other countries race ahead with vaccination, while they're getting nowhere. According to the article, a big part of the problem is agreeing to take part in a vaccination programme organised by the EU - link.

Another effective treatment for Covid-19 has been found - pralatrexate - but it has side effects so I'm guessing it will only be for bad cases - link.

Uk is no 1 on vaccination rollout in the West when looking at doses administered per hundred people. Twice as high as the next best Eu country Denmark and 6 times as high as Germany. Call it the Brexit bonus.

Is is that medical research has created new medicines?

Is it that we can take antibodies from the blood serum of people who have had the disease and give it to people who haven't?

No.

Is it that we now have the technology to make artificial antibodies (the treatment that cured Trump so quickly)?

No.

Is it that we've produced good vaccines in record time?

No.

So what is it that's going to finally see of this disease then?

Looks to me as though it's going to be the oldest cure for an outbreak that we know of: it has finally peaked, and will soon be on its way out...

Here's how Israel managed to get ahead of the pack - link. An interesting thing they've done is to get 6 doses out of each vial instead of the recommended 5 but the main thing is they appear to have paid double the price to get the vaccines early.

Israel started vaccinating after uk.  Uk started with Pfizer Covid-19 jab on 8 December, while Israel began vaccinations on 19 December. To get the same rate of vacinations per population as Israel the Uk would have to do  7 million a week. Israel of course has a big advantage in being a small country. Currently the Uk aspires to 2 million a week while Tony Blair thinks the Uk should be able to get to 5 million a week.

* vaccination is underway

* we've started a big new lockdown

* the infection number is a lagging indicator

* the death numbers lag even further behind the infection numbers
