woah Stockfish is lightning years ahead, how did that happen. Seriously the ELO difference is quite astonishing. Considering the fact that Lc0 played 200 games less than Dragon on a relatively weak GPU you can assume that their strength is even

I have read elsewhere Lc0 does over 100,000 NPS on a RTX 3060. That's 25 x faster than my 1060. A whole different story then.

You must make sure the gpu and cpu are similar in strength. I do also have a 1060. but it fights against my old amd phenom II 6 core.
Each cpu needs a gpu that fits.

Exactly, and how do you do that?

Hello Ed, You can download MSI afterburner. This APP will give you a correct readout of the GPU utilization when running Lc0. You would want your GPU utilization to be near 100%, if it is lower. You can try adding more CPU cores to Lc0. Default is 2 CPU, and if you have a fast CPU. You could change the CPU to 1.
Also if you are using Lc0 0.27.0, try using the multi-gather option. This could also help. This option is off by default in Lc0 0.27.0. With a fast GPU turning his option on gave me 20% to 40%+ gain in NPS. With my RTX GPU. Multi-gather option will be turned on by default in Lc0 0.28.0.
And of course with MSI Afterburner. You can overclock your GPU. And this will give you a few more percentage in NPS. If you want to try this option.
If you have a modern CPU. You should not have an issue getting any GPU to perform well. When running Lc0....

Here is an example of what you want to see. To know if your CPU and GPU are working well together. Knowing and monitoring your GPU is the key to get the most out of Lc0.
As you see my GPU is being utilized at 99% running Lc0. GPU clock speed, and memory, and temps are looking good. With the MSI Dragon Center APP giving the GPU and nice and stable OC running Lc0.
This is a very good speed for my older RTX running Lc0 with a big net (384). At over 18 Knps from the starting position.
