Subject: Samsung Monkeying With Benchmarks Sat Mar 05, 2022 9:24 am
Many recent Samsung phones have a "feature" which you cannot turn off (they are promising an off switch in the future) which throttles back performance of a large number of apps UNLESS it's a benchmark app, in which case, it's allowed to run at full speed!
I've always said that, IMO, there's no need to look at specific chess benchmarks, because:
1. in general, there will be a strong correlation between GeekBench scores and chess benchmark scores (simply: an old slow phone will score low on both and a new, fast phone will score high on both)
2. The Geekbench score for nearly all devices is available on web pages
So if you wanted to know how well a device would run a chess program, just look up its Geekbench score. However, this revelation negates this argument.
