I like this chess board: it portrays chess as a fairy tale adventure in a fantasy world. That is the way it should be IMO.
Suddenly, though, we find ourselves in a world where everything is reversed!
Chess is a world in which the truth is known to a good, and ever increasing, degree.
OTOH the media, and even "reality TV shows", are more and more turning reality into a non-existent fantasy!
"The truth is out there", but it's boring and nobody will pay for that. Here are the new rules:
1. we demand that everything we are shown gives us a dopamine rush - even if it is supposed to be depicting reality
2. truth now has a five second time limit: beyond that, you're boring and we don't want to know
3. we're ever less willing to consume any version of reality that doesn't match our own views or our own identity
4. still we more and more want our consumption of fantasy to look like reality
Per the title of one of Kasparov's books, life imitates chess. But the life we're willing to consume through the media imitates the old chess of fantasy, not the new chess of reality!
