PostSubject: list opening tendencies    list opening tendencies EmptyWed Aug 25, 2021 11:27 am

I'm looking for a way to visualize opening tendencies over a period of time, played by masters and grandmasters.
I want for example compare the openings played the last 5 years with the openings played 10 to 5 years ago.
I would like to have some visual list like here: https://www.pathtochessmastery.com/2017/10/trends-in-chess-openings-personal.html?m=1#comment-form
Someone knows how this can be done?

Maybe this is the kind of thing you're looking to create?

That would be great if this would be possible.
I'm not a programmer so I wonder if such a tool already exist or if it can easily be created.
I have a repertoire that is rather wide with many alternative variations for my color of play.
I'm looking for some meaningful way to further narrow down the repertoire.
I have heard for example that the Kings Indian defense, used to be a popular opening, among top players in the past, but that it lost popularity in recent years, because it is actually not a very good opening.
I want to be able to visualise this for all openings.

This is count of what I'm looking for but only 20 openings are listed.
No data for KID or Grunfeld opening for example.

The 20 openings change during the video (openings drop out and new ones appear in their place) - but on the whole, the top 20 didn't change all that much. Also, there's a limit to how many competitors it's worth putting on a bar chart race: 20 is probably already too many to follow easily.

Absolutely LOVED the music! Very Happy
