PostSubject: The New CStal   The New CStal EmptyMon Mar 27, 2023 7:42 pm

After playing through some of the recent games of this new version of Cstal. I must say every game Chris has posted has been amazingly complicated, aggressive, and looks like something very new. I like it! Perhaps, we can hope this engine becomes a commercial release ; as I'll be buying that one, for sure! Keep up the great work! I'll keep watching with great interest.

As far as i have seen it most computerchess nerds do NOT replay pgn games.
They are mainly interested in ELO . Numbers. Results.

I often wonder if they play chess at all.

I've said this before:

We are chessplayers who use computer chess to explore/deepen our passion.

These guys are IT guys who use chess to explore/deepen their passion.

They aren't the same as us.

You can say it. We all know!

These guys are computer nerds.

These GUYS do not care about chess at all or computer chess. Computer chess is just a means to a end to show who has the biggest dick.

It is all about their computer, not chess.

Computer chess is about passion for chess. Chess is an Art.
These guys think chess is going deep in the tree and eating material.
But a human plans for MATE. Chess is to mate the opposite king. This is the plan.
Machine chess is not having a plan.

CSTAL is trying to mate. A plan !!

it's not that far from me, just a car drive over the mountains, but ICGA? After what they did with Rybka? I don't think so. Comp Chess events are for fun, not to be confused with getting lynched by psychopaths.

July 8-16 in Valencia (what I heard) will be scorching hot.

If I were in your shoes, I probably couldn't resist the temptation to participate at all. Laughing  And don't forget, that you'd probably be a major favourite to win the event. Very Happy

They'd charge some money for ICGA membership for the last year ( a very minor amount). And they'd behave nicely ( I just envision Jaap and his secretary whose name I can't remember right now). Not to talk about the nice programmers you'd be likely to meet.

This kind of temptation is btw the only reason Crafty ever participated in ICGA events from 2004 on. Bob was going pretty wild at ICGA on CCC for setting these things up at horrible places using pretty unreasonable arguments. Israel looked like a fascinating place to go for me to meet Omid and Amir - so I thought I might as well offer to operate for Bob. And once this was offered, I thought it might be interesting to give this challenge a serious try Cool .

Icga is not nice to people who criticise them. We are persona non Grata for them.

Because above and beyond general ignored insults and provocations going on over months, T Czub made death threats against several posters on this forum, for which he was banned for 30 days. After his return Ed made a concerted effort, privately with him, to try to get him to withdraw and apologise. Ed got nowhere. All my political life, since Vietnam war, I’ve been an anti-NSDAP fighter. To my regret I’ve tolerated NSDAP style behaviour from T Czub for far too many years, whether this is his desire to force those he politically disagrees with to wear signs in the streets, his endless calls for killing, his death fantasies, his anti-Russian racism, anti-Serb racism and and and. The death threats and the refusal to acknowledge or apologise was the final straw, actually that finally broke this forum. Not much I can do to express my disgust, but I can deny him a license to use CSTal or any software I’ve a copyright on, so that’s what I’ve done. No compromise with right wing thugs and NDSAP activists. Despite lies and suggestions to the contrary, T Czub is not a CSTal developer, he has had nothing to do with me or the engine for 25 years, he can’t write software and he doesn’t actually understand chess engine algorithms. I have no connection with him past 25 years, nor now, nor future and he is denied licenced use of the software.
