And that is why I like the Banksia GUI. As I can run any crashes or time forfeit games. If they do happen with any chess engine or game. And continue a tournament without issues. If I lose power due to storms.

459 Partien gespielt / Turnier beendet Name des Turniers: Ryzen9 3950x 2023 Ort/ Land: DESKTOP-D269HUC, Deutschland Spielstufe: Turnier 40/10 Hardware: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X mit Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 mit 12 GB Speicher
the problem is not arena but stockfish.
I love stubborn people, but they aren't always right, as in this case. I guess you want that folks take your results seriously, I no longer can't.
Stockfish has a very aggressive usage of time controls. With consecutive time controls the problems is that it thinks it has enough time when the gui says it has not. Only 2 engines have this problem: shredder and stockfish. Therefore you can adjust the move overhead in stockfish that is way too minimal in default.
With 1000 (5000 is max) it works on my system.
I guess the default was 10.

Alright, you probably have fixed the problem. So, if you use SOMU, put your pgns into the pgn folder and run "Match Stats" from the menu you should get zero time forfeits for all engines. Would you care to check?

3300 games played / Tournament finished
Tournament start: 2023.02.22, 17:59:20 Latest update: 2023.07.08, 19:55:59 Site/ Country: isle of Rügen, Germany Level: Blitz 0:01/0,5 Hardware: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-7100 CPU @ 3.90GHz mit 7,9 GB Speicher Operating system: Windows 10 Enterprise Professional (Build 9200) 64 bit Table created with:Arena 3.5.1
The continuation of my unofficial tournament with a thinking time of 5s + 500 ms with the results of Revenge.
I am currently doing official tests with Lc0 on GPU (NN 61000) against SF 16.0, Komodo Dragon 3.2, CSTal 2.0 and Rebel 16.2. 335/400 games with a thinking time of 4 minutes + 2 seconds are played.
So it's possible to run matches in Arena without time forfeits. Maybe you are willing to instruct Thorsten how to properly do that? I assume it's about the moveoverhead setting.
Arena would never be my choice for matches, it has lag. Even analyzing you can notice it, turning sliding off helps, but it's still there compared to Fritz. You can of course offset its effect with move overhead, but with cutechess-cli around, who needs the aggravation?

Just a fast test with last Stockfish using TC: 1sec+0sec. = No Time Forfeits Using CuteChess Gui
In all my tests before Stockfish doesn't loose on time!

I guess it is possible for any engine to lose on time using Arena. Now, I have not seen that happen so much because I don't play a lot of games with Arena. But when you analyze using Arena, it is not uncommon for any engine to become decoupled from analysis and it becomes more problematic as tine control increases in quickness. Take any large EPD file, set the time control to one second per move, and start analyzing. After some time, it will lose it's place. I think it uses buffered I/O.

Yes arena is an old an slow GUI.
Maybe i will have to change to another gui. But i am used to it. I can setup something without looking to the screen ;-)
Mainly typing f9 or f11 to create tournaments or install engines. And then setting parameters was so easy.
Even if you dont run engines, you can use the gui very good for doing dedicated chess computer tournaments because you can organise the tournaments between your dedicated units with it.

Will give them a try. Another advantage of arena was the configuration of the output. You were able to define evry information you wanted to see in any kind of letters and fonts you wish or colors you wish. E.g. when watching matches or tournaments on a huge TV screen you could adapt the size of the information to the big screen.
