Less public transport means less spread of the disease, which means a longer time to OP. My definitions:

OS:  Omicron start date

OP:  Omicron peak date

OC:  Omicron clear date

For South Africa, OS was 23-Nov-21, OP was 15-Dec-21* and OC has not been reached yet: OP infections were around 26,000 per day*, and the current infection rate is around 4,000 infections per day*.


*numbers/dates my best interpretation from the infection chart. In these cases, the exact date/number are difficult to call.

More than 400.000 in the Netherlands were infected last week. So that means at least 1:45 infected.

I wanted to see if there is a correlation between vaccination and defeating the covid so I looked for data about percentage of vaccinations in different places.

I found the link at the bottom of this post that is clearly wrong because if I add Gibraltar then I find that 121% of the population is fully vaccinated against Covid19 that is clearly wrong.

It cannot be more than 100%

Edit:I can add that I am surprised by the low number of people who are dead from COVID-19 in the countries that are low in the list:
Ethoipia,Nigeria,Egypt

The worst case is Egypt and even they have clearly less victims relative to the population when I compare to the average of the world so
I wonder if vaccination really help against the corona(maybe it help people who get vaccination but in some way cause the corona to be more dangerous for people who did not get vaccination).

IMO, it's likely that people in rich countries are exposed to far fewer diseases than is healthy for them, resulting in poorly tuned immune systems that are not well able to fight off disease, and which are more prone to auto-immune disorders like allergies, inflammation, arthritis, asthma etc.

More importantly, though, you cannot directly compare stats between different countries. I have "inside information" that Poland is doing a lot less testing than other European countries. I only look at the shape of its infection chart - not the actual numbers. It is clear from the shape that Omicron has recently arrived in Poland.

The way we count deaths in Britain is ludicrous: if someone tested positive for Covid within 2-3 weeks of dying, this counts as a Covid death. I'm guessing that in the countries you mentioned (Ethiopia, Nigeria, Egypt) they count Covid deaths more sensibly. They might also be failing to count some genuine Covid deaths.

In most countries, vaccination is known to both reduce the risk of infection and to reduce the risk of serious illness in the event of infection.

O wait. Counting fails in the Netherlands due to overflow. Correct figure was about 500.000. So 1:36 infected last week.

When figures are growing with factor two every two weeks then within 10-12 weeks everbody will be infected.

But they are expecting peak in March.

Looking at the 30 day infection chart, the Netherlands might be experiencing its Omicron peak right now. Too soon to say for sure - no clear downward trend yet.

The USA is well passed the peak and is now on a strong downward trend. France has recently peaked and is now on a downward trend.

Something strange/unusual/unexpected has happened.

Mystery resolved: from yesterday, Britain started counting reinfections - link.

This will cause a one-off change in the shape of the curve (and the 7 day average curve for the next 7 days) - but it's annoying because the shape of the curve is what I have been looking at.

Initially, we were told that 60-70% of the population would need immunity to give a community/country herd immunity. It turns out that in the case of Covid, the actual number is about 90-95% (link). This explains to me why the disease has remained in circulation MUCH longer than I had ever expected.

Britain's seropositivity is well over 95% now, so we should be OK for the next few months. Deaths and hospitalisations remained low here during the Omicron wave.

Omicron will get seropositivity to a high level all over the world, so I'm mystified as to why the WHO (World Health Organisation) say we're only half way through the pandemic? To make "good" (in the sense of helping the virus to spread) mutations, it has to stay in people for a long time: with so much seropositivity around, it won't be able to IMO.

Last week 600.000 were tested positive. Joehoe 1:30 infected now in the Netherlands.
Problem not enough caregivers now. Heard in one center half were ill.

But they are only focussing on  number of people in Hospital. (Idiots)

On the other hand the more infected the sooner it will be over (unless you don't survive or get post traumatic stress disorder or something)
