Or do you think it swims ?!
If you look at the black death progress chart in my previous post, you'll see that it crossed bodies of water - so yes - it swam!

By the standards of the black death, Covid is not a big killer. The pain it is causing is also spurring massive progress against viral disease. Maybe no more flu pandemics by the end of this decade (I'm serious: universal flu vaccinations (link) are not far away, and treatments for viral infections are progressing faster than ever). So today's pain will have a big payoff: the ability of viruses to cause mayhem is being crushed even as we "suffer". A small price for a huge reward!

The British government has reintroduced mask-wearing indoors from tomorrow. Everyone in the office today has complained about this imposition, and nobody has supported the decision because it might slow the spread of the new variant. Not a single person. I cannot, of course, say how representative our office is of Britain as a whole.
The background is that the Covid infection number seems to be levelling off right now, and the death rate is clearly declining.

Yes - deaths are a "lagging indicator".
New Omicron variant infections, as detected by PCR tests, are doubling every 2.5 days in Britain right now.
However, not one single person has been hospitalised by it yet. Not one!
Globally, there is still no news of anyone having died from Omicron. It's VERY good at spreading, but rubbish at causing serious illness, so maybe we shouldn't be panicking so much about it. It might even be helping by improving immunity worldwide (obviously this is speculation on my part, I have no actual evidence).

This is speculation, but I suspect that the countries that have had the strongest and longest lockdowns now have an immunity deficit.
England has a seropositivity of 95.3% - link. I think that this is one of the highest rates in the world, and may well explain how we're combining high rates of infection with low rates of serious illness.

I guess now Omnikron variation dominant in UK. This will be Europe's future. Say within one month. See what happens.
Already 25% of infections in Amsterdam are Omnikron. In The Netherlands figure is doubling every three days. Probably we get in a real lockdown soon instead of a fake/soft lockdown we have now.

This is like a tsunami. Delta was high. But omicron is even higher and build upon the level of delta.
