In a game between Chess System Tal on 3000 cycles the Chafitz Sargon 4.0 with 130 mhz instead of 4 mhz makes a draw. I think it could have been won by Tal but at a certain point in the game Tal made a move that gave a way the win. Yes - it was joint 1st at the WMCCC in 1984, and it would beat me easily, but a couple of moves there were a bit dodgy. The joys of 8-bit chess computers!

although the material is unbalanced, the position is draw and no side makes progress. so adjudication Draw.
I have attached Pictures how the Phoenix Reflection machine looks like.
In the big display you see emulated buttons. You can either input the buttons via the cursor keys or with the big press sensory display. Therefore i use a pencil.
It fits in any munich, modular or exclusive chess board made by mephisto / saitek.
Here it is the exclusive board with magnetic sensors.

Either you know it or you drive into the abyss. White did not castle, and the bishops and the black passed pawn was strong. The funny thing is on the very slow pc cstal did 400 NPS while the 6502 pushed to 75 mhz did 20.000-30.000 nps !!

The funny thing is on the very slow pc cstal did 400 NPS while the 6502 pushed to 75 mhz did 20.000-30.000 nps !! Over two decades on, I can still remember Ed saying:
"I'm taking knowledge out [of the evaluation function]" . His point being that deeper search made most of the knowledge redundant, because the search would uncover it anyway.
At the time, he didn't know that in the late 2010s, we would discover that having a large amount of knowledge is more valuable than a deep search.
IMO, Chris is guilty as well: he believed that the route to success was getting better at hand-coding knowledge - but from today's perspective, it looks as though this was never going to work: it seems as though NNs confer some "mystery knowledge" (chess patterns that most chess players, with the possible exception of very strong ones, simply aren't aware of, and which are important).
To be fair though, none of us predicted the NN revolution in the game!
